A Canberra charity says outdated government-owned community facilities are preventing organisations from embracing electric vehicles, forcing them to spend time and money charging elsewhere.
Independent MLA Thomas Emerson backed the call, saying community organisations should not be left behind in the transition to cleaner transport.
“Often community sector workers and the people that they support are operating and working out of some of Canberra’s older buildings,” he told Region.
“We talk a lot about the importance of a just transition … and ensure that it’s not just wealthier people who are able to access the benefits … And if they can’t charge safely either at home or work, that really reduces the likelihood of someone making that decision.”
