The ACT is in talks to acquire only the eastern section of the former CSIRO Ginninderra experiment station, with the Housing Minister declaring the government could not do everything at once. Yvette Berry said the current talks did not preclude future negotiations for more of the site, which sits between the suburbs of Belconnen and Gungahlin in Canberra's north west.
"It is quite a big area to be providing more homes on and quite a significant amount of work," Ms Berry said on Thursday.
"We couldn't do it all at once, and this is the negotiation that is happening for the east part of the site.
Kurrajong independent Thomas Emerson on Wednesday asked Ms Berry why the number of dwellings forecast for the site had dropped from earlier options presented to Senator David Pocock, for whom Mr Emerson worked, in 2023.
