“If you look at film footage of Canberra in the 1940s, this is how people used to get around,” the founder of the Canberra By Bike group says.
It has the full backing of Independent MLA Thomas Emerson, who is pushing for the ACT Government to better support bike buses in its next Climate Change Strategy.
“Yes, the government’s active travel plan commits to moving away from car dependence in Canberra to the extent it’s possible, but we’re not actually really driving the cultural change that’s needed to make that happen,” Emerson explains to Region.
“And I think Canberra By Bike does a really great job of showing how cyclable Canberra is, and how it could be with better infrastructure.”
