A motion by independent ACT senator David Pocock pushing for "accessible, free or affordable" public transport to ease pressure on wallets as fuel prices rise has failed to pass after the Liberal Party split with the Nationals in the Senate.
And the Legislative Assembly was poised to vote on a motion that could see the Barr territory government put its hand out for Commonwealth funding to slash fares, after the Canberra Liberals and ACT Greens exerted pressure on ACT Labor.
Mr Emerson said Australia was spending $714 a year per resident on roads and just 90 cents on walking and cycling infrastructure.
"This is a great opportunity to lean into what can be a long term change," Mr Emerson said.
