The ACT government announced the beginning of construction on the final section of a city cycleway despite works being delayed, with the Chief Minister sharing a post that was "not correct" on his Instagram.
Construction on the final stage of the Garden City Cycleway in Braddon had not begun when Chief Minister Andrew Barr posted on Instagram that "works have started" on Cooyong Street on April 7, 2026.
In question time on Tuesday, May 5, four weeks after the social media post, independent Thomas Emerson asked City Services Minister Tara Cheyne when construction on the cycle path would begin.
Ms Cheyne acknowledged construction had not begun as advertised, saying the media communications were approved and scheduled for publication before Easter.
"There were then some delays to construction commencing because of the impacts of fuel prices and there needed to be some further engagement with the contractor. Ultimately, that information was still published while that further engagement was under way, so ultimately it was not correct," she said.
