Recent wins I’ve helped secure for our community.
My supply-and-confidence agreement with ACT Labor contains a commitment to hire 10 additional in-field park rangers. We need more boots on the ground to protect and enhance the incredibly unique ecological diversity of our territory. Learn more.
As part of my supply-and-confidence agreement with ACT Labor, I negotiated a commitment to increase public and community housing as a proportion of total housing across the ACT. This proportion has steadily declined since self-government. Learn more.
My first private member’s bill, the Public Sector (Closing the Gap) Legislation Amendment Bill 2025, passed the ACT Legislative Assembly with minor amendments in December 2025. Learn more.
In February 2025, I used my first Private Member’s Motion in the Assembly to call on the ACT Government to develop and deliver a coordinated ACT Food Relief Action Plan. A high-level plan was tabled in the Assembly in February 2026. Learn more.
I successfully moved a Private Member’s Motion in May 2025 calling on the ACT Government to establish a Board of Inquiry into systemic issues surrounding the deaths of Aboriginal detainees in the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC). Learn more.
In April 2025, my team and I pulled together a working group of passionate locals who’ve since collaborated to develop a three-phase vision for revitalising Wakefield Gardens in Ainslie. Learn more.
After women’s safety advocate Kim Elms reached out about poor lighting around Lake Burley Griffin, I brought an Assembly motion calling for change. The National Capital Authority has since installed 220 new lights and announced $10 million for further upgrades. Learn more.
The ACT Government’s Safer Families Assistance is a $2,000 payment to support women to escape domestic and family violence. The program was abruptly discontinued in December 2024 after allocated funding was exhausted, until I successfully pushed for its reinstatement.
Following concerning disclosures about abuse and neglect in some early childhood education and care centres, I used a powerful parliamentary motion in June 2025 to release government documents related to serious child safety breaches. Learn more.
In May 2025, I co-sponsored an Assembly motion with Liberal MLA Elizabeth Lee and Greens MLA Shane Rattenbury calling on the ACT Government to develop a five-year strategic plan for Oaks Estate, which they have since done. Learn more.
The Canberra Institute of Technology's remedial massage program was taken off scope back in August 2024, despite being on the ACT Skills Needs List. I supported industry advocates in their successful push for CIT to reinstate the program in 2026. Learn more.
In May 2026, I successfully moved a motion in the Assembly calling on the ACT Government to establish a dedicated whistleblower support function to provide casework, legal and wellbeing support for public sector workers who want to expose wrongdoing. You can learn more here.
In the 2026-27 ACT Budget, the Government announced $11.4 million over four years to strengthen the regulation of early childhood education and care in the ACT, including through a more than 50 per cent increase in staffing for the regulator, Children’s Education and Care Assurance (CECA). This followed my sustained public advocacy for increased resourcing for the regulator and a motion I brought to the Assembly in early 2026.
In the 2026-27 Budget, the ACT Government announced a near $60 million boost for the community sector, including a $22.7 million funding uplift for existing services across the sector and $14.8 million in additional funding for community legal assistance organisations. A commitment to more sustainable community sector funding is contained in my supply-and-confidence agreement with the Chief Minister, so I was pleased to see Budget announcements aligned with this commitment to start addressing the rising demand for support among vulnerable Canberrans.

Read MoreDespite being born into a political family, I was never interested in politics growing up.
I began paying closer attention to politics after starting a family of my own, and was disappointed to see a lack of courageous leadership in the face of simultaneous housing, climate and mental health crises.
I felt we needed more independently-minded, forward-looking politicians who were committed to acting in our community’s long-term best interests.
That’s why I volunteered to support David Pocock's values-based campaign to become the ACT's first independent senator in 2022. I asked for a job when he was elected and spent the next two years working as one of Senator Pocock’s advisers.
In a bid to bring the independent movement to the ACT Legislative Assembly, I launched Independents for Canberra in early 2024. Twenty candidates ended up running under our banner, working together wherever possible while retaining our independence.
On 19 October 2024, I was one of two independent candidates elected to become a Member of the Legislative Assembly, breaking a 23-year drought for independents in ACT politics.
I believe we are at our best when we come together to form communities based on trust and mutual respect. Reflecting this belief, my approach to politics is grounded in honesty, integrity and collaboration.
I live in the inner north with my wife and our two young children. I hold a philosophy degree from the Australian National University and, before entering politics, was the founder and operator of Canberra’s first holistic movement studio, Praksis.
