In light of the recent health overspend by the ACT Government, and the fact that increased demand for health services became known to the Health Minister during the caretaker period before the election but she hadn’t shared that information with any other parties, Greens MLA Andrew Braddock introduced a motion to establish a Select Committee on Caretaker Conventions.
This committee will consider the extent to which all members of the Assembly - not just Ministers - receive regular updates on government operations and revenue throughout the caretaker period.
Thomas supported the motion, successfully moving amendments to ensure independents and non-incumbent candidates are not unnecessarily disadvantaged by the provision of vital information coming out of the public service during the caretaker period. The amended motion passed with multipartisan support.
