This motion was brought forward by Canberra Liberals leader Leanne Castley and directed the Health Minister to ensure Burrangiri Respite Centre, which she had announced would close on 30 June 2025, is able to operate until at least 30 June 2026.
ACT Labor proposed an amendment calling on the Government to instead work with the Commonwealth Government to deliver alternative respite capacity as soon as practicable. This amendment was voted down by the Canberra Liberals and the crossbench.
The ACT Greens proposed an amendment directing the Minister to report back to the Assembly on 14 May 2025 outlining how she intends to secure Burrangiri’s continuing operation. Thomas supported this amendment and the otherwise unamended motion was passed by the Assembly.
