Greens MLA Andrew Braddock brought forward a motion calling on the Assembly to censure Transport Minister Chris Steel MLA for the ACT Government’s bungled rollout of MyWay+.
This followed the release of a damning multi-partisan committee report, which found that the project was “too large and complex” for the Government to handle and that community testing of the project was “undertaken so poorly that it was almost meaningless”.
Thomas spoke in support of the censure motion, noting the particular impacts of the failed rollout on people with disability. During the inquiry, it was revealed that the MyWay+ system was likely to be non-compliant with several disability discrimination and human rights laws at both the ACT and federal levels.
The censure motion passed with the support of the ACT Greens, the Canberra Liberals, independent MLA Fiona Carrick, and Thomas. This was the first time a censure motion had successfully been moved against an ACT Government Minister since 2011.
