Canberra Liberals MLA Deborah Morris brought forward a motion calling on the ACT Government to take immediate action to increase the number of dwelling commencements in the ACT. The motion also called on the ACT Government to commence quarterly reporting on its progress toward its commitment to deliver 30,000 homes by 2030.
The ACT Greens moved amendments seeking to reduce the reporting frequency to every six months; adding further detail to what would be reported to capture approvals, commencements and completions in each time period; and expanding the reporting requirements to specify numbers of affordable, community, and public housing dwellings released every six months.
Thomas spoke in support of the motion and the ACT Greens amendments, remarking that the ongoing intensity of the ACT’s housing crisis reflected a lack of urgent action from both the Federal and Territory Governments.
The motion, as amended, was passed with the unanimous support of the Assembly.
