There will be an inquiry into the government's "unacceptable" decision to upgrade a high school gym instead of completely replacing it.
The government shelved a two-year plan to replace the Lyneham High School gym, instead committing $5.7 million to upgrade the existing 65-year-old facility.
A petition asking the government to follow through on the original plans received 562 signatures.
The petition said the new gym was a 2020 ACT Labor election promise.
"Backing out of this promise is unacceptable and degrades trust in the ACT government," it read.
Independent MLA Tom Emerson is the chair of the committee that will investigate the school's concerns.
"There was a high level of engagement with this petition from the Lyneham High School community," Mr Emerson said.
