Canberra sport has faced a lot of problems of late, but a new report may hold the keys to resolving them.
A 100-page report diving into the many issues hampering ACT sports has revealed 33 recommendations for the government to urgently review, including extending curfew at grounds, reducing ground hire fees, reactivating more dryland ovals and expanding the voucher system.
Independent Member for Kurrajong Thomas Emerson was part of the committee and criticised the ACT government for not having the "foresight to invest in community sport" despite its "vital role in fostering healthy communities".
"Too many of our existing sports grounds and facilities are falling apart, and not enough new facilities are being constructed to match the growth of our population," he said.
