After a series of near misses involving children, dogs and vehicles at a blind corner behind the Downer shops, residents have launched a petition urging the ACT Government to make the area safer for pedestrians.
Sponsored by Thomas Emerson, the petition will remain open until August and calls for traffic calming measures behind the Downer shops, where vehicles access the carpark shared by the Gang Gang Cafe, Goodwin Aged Care, sporting fields and apartments.
Petitioners say the road layout creates a blind corner with poor visibility, allowing cars and delivery vans to travel too quickly through an area regularly used by families, dog walkers and older residents.
