Standards for ACT public servants to improve outcomes and cultural safety for First Nations people should become law and an inquiry examining the proposal is neither appropriate nor necessary, a group of Aboriginal community leaders says.
The Legislative Assembly's public accounts and administration standing committee is examining Kurrajong independent Thomas Emerson's Public Sector (Closing the Gap) Legislation Amendment Bill, which would require all ACT public servants to work in accordance with a new "Closing the Gap principle", including promoting cultural safety and eliminating institutional racism.
