Holding a rape victim's hand while they undergo medical examination in hospital is just one of the way Paula McGrady supports sexual violence survivors in Canberra.
Mr Emerson said the decision to divert funding away from Nguru was "a real failure" since there was no ACCO which provided specialist crisis support for victims of sexual violence.
"Discontinuing funding for this program could be potentially catastrophic for the women who rely on that service and also the women who have worked on building up that service over an extended period of time," he said.
